The counting of votes for the Eighth Amendment Referendum has commenced at St Joseph’s Community Centre, Wexford.

9 am – Opening of 191 boxes. Number registered to vote; 113,054.

Rural boxes in North Wexford opened – showing landslide in favour of YES vote.

Tally figures  –  70% say YES in Riverchapel. All North Wexford boxes (44) have been opened tally is 67% YES. Enniscorthy boxes now being opened.

Former New Ross Senator Jim Walsh, who describes himself as a Pro-Life Advocate, told WexfordToday.com that Wexford has reflected the national trend.

“I am disappointed, but not surprised at the outcome. The NO campaign was slow. I am surprised at the extent of the margin,” he stated.

Coming up to 11 am – Wexford district boxes now being opened. Last few boxes in Wexford district now open.

Some tallies; Camolin 65%, Kilanerin 65%, Castletown 64% – YES. 70% in Askamore and Duncannon.

Final tally figures, 69% – 31% favouring YES.

12.00 – Sorting and checking at present. Possible result around 1 pm.
