Minister Michael D’Arcy, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Finance and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform was on hand in Gorey to attend the handover of the first four completed homes in a 22-unit turnkey development at Gleann an Ghairdin, Ballytegan Road, Gorey last Friday.
The remaining units will be handed over to Wexford County Council over the coming months and it is anticipated that all 22 units will shortly be occupied by families from the Council’s housing list.

At the handover of houses at Gorey were Sinead Kehoe, Principal Officer, Dept. of Housing, Planning and Local Government; Cllr Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin, Dan Morrissey, building contractor, Minister Michael D’Arcy, T.D., Padraig O’Gorman, Housing Officer, Wexford Co. Council, Cllr Joe Sullivan, Chairman Gorey Municipal District Council, and John Carley, Director of Services, Wexford Co. Council.
“I am delighted to be here this morning to attend the handover of these new homes” said Minister D’Arcy. “North Wexford continues to experience strong housing demand with the result that it can be very difficult for those on the Council’s housing list to secure accommodation in the area. This turnkey development will be fully completed and occupied in the next year, bringing security of tenure and a renewed quality of life to 22 families who have been waiting patiently for many years for a home of their own.”
Under Rebuilding Ireland, Wexford County Council has been set ambitious targets for the delivery of a range of housing options over the period 2017 – 2019, with funding of €25 million provided by the Department of Housing Planning and Local Government. The Council is well ahead of target and expects to deliver almost 2800 social housing units during the life of the Programme.
