An early morning start for Darkness Into Light

Celebrity chef, DERRY CLARKE, brand ambassador for Pieta House, will be attending the Drakness Into Light event at Courtown next Saturday.

An estimated 2,000 people is expected to congregate at Flanagan’s Wharf, Courtown, at 4.15 am, on Saturday, May 12th for the 5km walk/run for Darkness Into Light, which first took place at the popular North Wexford seaside resort four years ago.

Celebrity chef, DERRY CLARKE, brand ambassador for Pieta House, will be attending the Drakness Into Light event at Courtown next Saturday.

Celebrity chef Derry Clarke, who is brand ambassador for Pieta House, who benefits from the charity event, will be a special participant at the Courtown walk.

The walk will take to the Main Street in the Gorey direction, left at the Ocen Point apartments, past Pirates Cove, left at Jimmz Bar in Riverchapel, down the Red Row, right towards Courtown Adventure Leisure Centre, down the Burrow Road to meet the sunrise, turn around and finish up at Flanagan’s Wharf.

The New Ross Darkness Into Light parade will meet at The Apex, Bosheen, at 3.45 pm, heading along the N30 and travelling down town to quayfront, heading out towards Kent’s Cross roundabout, back to the Bosheen and ending up back at The Apex.

Last year, around 1,500 people participated and raised €24,000 for Pieta House, and the New Ross organised are confident of surpassing those figures next Saturday.

Enniscorthy will get its event away from Bellefield GAA Complex at 4.15 am and upwards of 1,000 are expected to gather and experience the sunrise soon afterwards. James Browne, T.D., Fianna Fail spokesperson on Mental Health is attending and will start the event.

This is the second year of the Wexford walk – last year they got 1,700 people out, and they hope to get a bigger number this year – and everybody will gather at St Joseph’s Community Centre and the walk starts at 4.15 am.

The route will use the White Mill Road, by Woodies, onto Clonard Road, onto Summerhill Road, past St Aidan’s SuperValu and there will be refreshments waiting when the participants returns to St Joseph’s Community Centre a little bit tired but exciting by having supported a worthwhile event.
