Mrs Kathleen Stamp was presented with the “Special Merit” award at the National Greyhound Awards, sponsored by Galway Crystal, at the Killashee House, on Sunday evening.

Minister Andrew Doyle did the honours, assisted by sponsor James Callaghan, IGB Chairman Phil Meaney and the assorted members of the Irish Greyhound Board.

Kathleen’s “Glenbrien” prefix is known far and wide, and she is a regular visitor to the likes of Shelbourne Park, Waterford and of course Enniscorthy.

She purchased her first pair of pups 41 years ago. They were by the great Tain Mor out of Quarry Blaze, from the Raths, Avonbeg, Ferns.

One of those pups, Glenbrien Blaze, was a brilliant staying bitch and she introduced her owner to many of the tracks around the country, she later went on to become a magnificent brood bitch and threw the likes of Glenbrien Champ, Glenbrien Smarty, Glenbrien Spark, Ballinagore Imp, etc. In fact her daughters went on to become brood bitches in their own right.

The award is very deserved and we expect to see many more winners carry the Glenbrien prefix for many years to come.
