Five people – two adults and three children – are recovering from the effects of smoke inhalation at University Hospital Waterford following a house fire on Mary Street, New Ross, this afternoon.
Concerns were raised about the poor condition of one of the children, but WexfordToday.com has learned tonight that all involved in the fire ordeal are expected to make a full recovery.
The alarm was raised around 3.30 pm when a man working on an adjacent house noticed smoke and flames coming from the top floor windows of a three-story house.
The man, believed to be his ‘fifties and hailed a local hero, went into the house and assisted with the rescue of a man and three children, the youngest aged three. A second adult is believed to have made a self-achieved escape from the building.
Emergency services were quickly on the scene and damage to the house was curtailed and the injured occupants were treated at the scene before their removal to hospital.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but an investigation is continuing.
