LUKE MURPHY a winner at Courtown yesterday and Askeaton today.

After a busy weekend on the point-to-point circuit, Barry O’Neill leads Jamie Codd by one winner, 40-39, with Derek O’Connor creeping closer on 34 and Rob James on the 26-winner mark after a very successful weekend.
Barry O’Neill had a Sunday winner on Dannywhizzbang for Colin Bowe in division two of the maiden race for five year old geldings at Ballykisteen, near Askeaton, Co. Limerick, by two and a half lengths.
Luke Murphy, fresh from a local success at Courtown yesterday, teamed up with Denis Murphy, Ballyboy Stables, The Ballagh, to take division one of this competitive event by one and three-parts of a length, and a Wexford success in both divisions.
Wayne Kehoe, who trains at Blackwater, enjoyed his first success when Linda Butler’s Backintheoldtimes romped home by six lengths in the mare’s maiden race with Shane Fitzgerald up.
Next Sunday’s point-to-point is at Monksgrange under the auspices of the Bree Hunt Club and the first race is at 2 pm. Entries close on Tuesday.

BREAKING NEWS;  Jamie Codd took a heavy fall at Ballysteen this afternoon. His mount Maypole Class came down in the opening four-year-old maiden and Codd was attended to at the scene before being moved to Limerick Hospital. The leading rider is due to be taken for scans and x-rays tomorrow before an accurate assessment can be made and is suffering from pain in his lower back.

Codd had been set to miss three point-to-point days this month following a recent suspension at Aintree and this could force a further spell on the sidelines which seems sure to affect his riders title hopes.
