
Ballycogley Players celebrating on the stage at St Brigid’s Hall, Carnew, after winning the All Ireland Confined Drama Finals on Saturday night.
Ballycogley Players are celebrating following last night’s success with Conor McPherson’s play, ‘The Night Alive’, in the All-Ireland Confined Drama Finals which came to an end after a 9-night run in St. Brigid’s Hall, Carnew.
In total Ballycogley won six awards as follows;
Sean Carthy (Best Supporting Actor).
Con Doyle (Nominated for Best Supporting Actor).
Trish Boyce (Nominated for Best Actress).
Paddy McGuire (Stage Management).
Breda Hayes (Best Director).
Ballycogley Players (Best Overall Play).
Founded over 40 years ago, this is the second time that Ballycogley have tasted All-Ireland Confined Drama Final success, repeating the title winning performance of Conor McPherson’s ‘The Weir’ in 2006.
This year’s play was one of two Wexford plays to make the All-Ireland’s, the other was Coolgreny Drama with Ariel Dorfman’s ‘Death and the Maiden’, and it was an extremely successful venture for the orgainising committee, South Wicklow Drama Festival Committe and groups from across the country were welcomed to Carnew.
Adjudicator Tom Byrne was very impressed by the performances of the Ballycogley group.

‘The Night Alive’ by Conor McPherson, is set in Dublin, and tells the story of Tommy, a middle aged man, just about getting by, renting a rundown room in his Uncle Maurice’s house, keeping his ex-wife and kid’s at arms length.With warmth, style and craft, the play mines the humanity to be found in the most unlikely situations.
