The comfortable interior of Gorey Library where the May Bush tales will be told on Saturday.
Gorey’s Ceol Mo Chroí is endorsing the May Day Bealtaine celebrations and to kick start the celebrations traditional singer, Rachel Uí Fhaoláin, will host a free traditional Singing/May Bush Decoration Workshop in Gorey Library on Saturday, April 21st at 11 am.
The children will sing new songs especially written by the children of the Ceol Mo Chroí Traditional Singing Club in which they explain how they decorate the May Bush!
During the traditional singing workshop the children will also have an opportunity to decorate and sing around the community’s very own Hawthorn tree (May Bush) which was kindly donated to Ceol Mo Chroí by Springmount Garden Centre.
Traditionally the May Bush was erected on the eve of May Day and decorated with egg shells, rags/ribbons, flowers and candles. Children will bring their own decorations and some craft material will be in use on the day.
The May Bush will remain in Gorey Library for a few days following the traditional singing workshop to allow members of the community to add on a personal decoration before the tree moves onto various venues/events in Gorey in the lead up to May Day. The tree will then find a permanent home in Gorey, a community May Bush to enjoy for years to come.
