The wind and the rain at Enniscorthy on Monday night was not enough to dampen the enthusiasm of spectators. The final of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Easter Unraced Stake was decided at the Ross Road venue.
Martin Fortune’s Ninja Burgess led from trap rise to land the 4,000 euro first prize for connections. The strapping 80lb son of Vans Esclade closed the door firmly on the third bend as Boylesports Boom edged his way up the inside. At the line he had two lengths to spare over Boom and the fast finishing, Blackhill Rock, a short head back in third place, the time 29.84. The winner’s litter brother, Burgess Brandy, won the Future Champion Unraced at the track last October.
The RED MILLS Champion Unraced in Kilkenny is the next Connolly’s sponsored event and it carries a 10,000 euro first prize.
