Three weekend winners each for O’Neill and Codd

BARRY O’NEILL three winners over the weekend.

Three winners each for Barry O’Neill and Jamie Codd means that the Wexford jockeys are still locked in battle at the top of the National Point-to-Point Riders’ Championship with the reigning champion from Kiltealy holding the advantage over his Mayglass rival – 38/37 – by one.
Jamie Codd spent his Sunday afternoon riding three winners at Rathcannon, Co. Limerick, getting off the mark in the maiden race for four year olds aboard Dramatic Approach, trained at The Ballagh by Denis Murphy.
It was an emotional success for the Codd family when Yourlookinwell took the maiden race for five and six year old mares by four lengths.
And Jamie Codd, who won the bumper at Aintree ón Thursday ón the 15/8 favourite, Getaway Katie Mai, (unfortunately, Codd received a 17-day ban for overuse of the whip), made it winner number three ón Declan Queally’s Minella For Value in the Open Lightweight Race.
Barry O’Neill spread his treble over two fixtures, kicking off ón Saturday at Moira, ón the Thomas Coyle (Meath) trained Golden Chance by eight lengths in the competotive mares maiden race.

On Sunday, O’Neill headed to Louth and got a double score ón the board. It began in the maiden race for four year olds with a two lengths success ón the Donnchadh Doyle hope, Beyondapproach, beating Denis Murphy’s Gipsy Rose Lee (Simon Cavanagh) in the four years old maiden for mares.
Barry was ón Eddies Miracle for David Christie, Fermanagh, in the foxhunters at Aintree ón Thursday when they came to grief early in the race, but there was compensation for both jockey and trainer when Vinnie Luck did the business by four lengths in the Open Lightweight Race.
There was also Sunday point-to-point action at Stradbally, Co. Laois, and the first division of the Goffs Punchestown Sale Five Year Old Geldings Race ón The Tangler Barry, trained by Brian Jordan at Suncormick, and a welcome winner for veteran Cleariestown rider, Mark Scallan.
Later in the day in the mares maiden race, We’llcwhathappens, trained by Benny Walsh, Cleariestown, for owner Rachel Rath, scored by eight lengths in division two of the mares maiden race under an inspired ride from Sean O’Keeffe, Taghmon.
