Anthony named ‘Manager of the Month’

Anthony Masterson has just been named as the Lidl/Irish Daily Star ‘Manager of the Month’ for March in ladies’ football.

The acknowledgement comes after the Castletown-Liam Mellows man, and former long-serving Wexford football goalkeeper, has guided the Wexford ladies’ footballers to 18 points out of a possible 21 in Division 3 during the group-stages of the National League.

This is Anthony’s second term at the helm of the ladies’ side, and after going very close to wining this section of the league outright last year – losing to Tipperary in a replayed final – he has Wexford in formidable form again as they face into the April 22nd semi-final against Kildare, who Wexford already accounted for on the road in February.

Meath take on Down on the other side of the Division 3 semi-final draw.

Recognition for Anthony’s astute management comes hot on the heels of star centre-back Róisín Murphy being named as the Women’s Gaelic Players’ Association’s Ladies’ Football ‘Player of the Month’ for March, with her citation for same noting that: “Murphy is the fulcrum at centre-back in a Wexford team sitting top of Division 3…Róisín’s driving force from the number 6 position and her leadership and communication have all been crucial in Wexford’s current form.”

Wexford have accounted for Longford (3-10 to 2-5), Leitrim (walkover), Kildare (4-9 to 3-9), Roscommon (2-7 to 1-6), Meath (3-12 to 2-6) and Down (3-11 to 2-8), before an experimental outfit lost out to Offaly 4-12 to 4-8.

Wexford are now determined to decorate their magnificent progress under Anthony’s stewardship by adding national silverware in advance of facing into championship battle.
