COLIN BOWE had a winner at Dromahane.
Due to ground conditions caused by excessive rainfall in recent weeks, Dromahane was the only point-to-point to go ahead this weekend, and the Sunday action at the Cork venue produced a brace of Wexford winners.
Colin Bowe’s newcomer, Hill Sixteen, ón his debut, won the maiden race for five year old geldings by one length, beating Spyglass Hill, ridden by Sean O’Keeffe, for Crossabeg handler, Liz Doyle.
Hill Sixteen will be heading for the sales after giving Barry O’Neill his 35th winner of the season, and he is back at the head of the national riders’ championship, and the 18th success of the season for Colin Bowe, who is trailing his neighbour, Donnchadh Doyle, by two – 20-18 – in the national handlers’ championship.
The maiden race for four year olds was won by Gigginstown House Stud’s debutante, Shot To Hill, by one and a half lengths, and was a victory for James Kenny, Craanford, having his first ride for top Tipperary trainer, Pat Doyle.
It was a Wexford second and third. Colin Bowe’s Cobblers Way (Barry O’Neill) was runner-up and Donnchadh Doyle’s Winged Leader (Rob James) filled the third spot.
