€95,000 in funding has been allocated to Wexford to support local heritage projects, announced by the Minister for Culture, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, under the 2018 Structures at Risk Fund and the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2018, which provides €3.3 million for 446 heritage projects across the country.
€15,000 each is provided for the removal, repair and reinstatement of windows at St. Iberius Church, Wexford; a similiar amount will assist the secure building asnd prevent further decay at Ballysampson House; and €15,000 is also allocated to the upkeep of Sanderscourt Gate-lodges.
Repairs to the roof at the Friary Church in Wexford town will receive €9,500; Siopa Bróg at Castle St., Enniscorthy, €4,500; and St Peter & Paul Church, Kilanerin, will receive a similar amount.
The reinstatement of architectural features at Castleboro House, Enniscorthy, receives €4,500; interior repairs at Hyde Park, Inch, Gorey gets €5,500; Rosegarland House, Wellingtonbridge, is allocated €6,000 for the restoration of windows; Robinstown House, Clonroche, gets €6.000 for interior structural repairs; and €9,500 goes to the Cornmill, Raheenduff, Foulksmills.
Commenting Minister Michael D’Arcy said; “This funding will allow for the conservation and repair of protected structures across Wexford These buildings and structures are so important to our heritage. Maintaining and repairing these monuments help communities preserve their cultural identity and give people a sense of pride of place. The funding is also very important in terms of developing our tourism offering and helping to attract visitors to Wexford with all the benefits that can bring.”
