Easter weekend saw the return of the best of both national and international cyclists to Gorey for the Usher Insulations Gorey 3-Day Cycle Race where the local Gorey Cycling Club Redmond Electric Euronics was represented by Paul Byrne, a strong rider having his first Gorey 3 Day experience.
Stage 1 on Saturday saw the race start in Blessington and head for Hacketstown, however, Paul was brought down in a crash at around the 50km mark which saw him and a few other riders chasing back on despite various injuries. The pace was up in the main field which hampered the chasers who finished behind the main field in Gorey.
Stage 2 on Easter Sunday morning was a time trial from Clough to Gorey where Paul rode strongly to post a time of 9 min 55 sec.
Stage 3 after lunch on Sunday was a road race, four laps of the Gorey, Craanford, Camolin route. Paul rode extremely well and maintained his position overall.
On Easter Monday, Stage 4 was the final stage and return leg to Blessington, held in very difficult weather conditions, where Paul rode a strong race to consolidate his position.
Gorey Cycling Club are very proud of Paul Byrne and his performances and they would like to thank all who helped in any way, especially the sponsors Redmond Electric Euronics, Oakfield Nursing Home, Revolve Bike Shop, Measure IT, Egan Landscaping and Diamond Windscreens for their ongoing support.
