Funding for four Wexford harbours

COURTOWN HARBOUR. Recent work included dredging the basin.

Four harbours in Co. Wexford are set to share €228,750 in funding for repair projects on harbours and slipways controlled by Local Authorities – Courtown, Fethard, Kilmore Quay and Duncannon.
The package provides funding for maintenance and repair works in addition to supporting the ongoing development and enhancement of harbour facilities including some marine leisure developments.
Courtown Harbour receives funding for improved lighting and fenders at narrow harbour entrance.
Fethard Harbour needs repairs to the masonry pier; Kilmore Quay is in line for safety and upgrade of harbour lights and upgrade electrical bollards and Duncannon will gain improvement of access.
The funding has been welcomed by Minister Michael D’Arcy; “I am delighted to welcome this announcement of the continuation of the programme to assist Coastal Local Authorities in the repair and development of fishery and aquaculture linked marine infrastructures under their ownership.”
The Local Authority programme forms part of the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marines’ 2018 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme, whereby the Department co-funds up to 75% of the total cost of approved capital projects with the Local Authority providing the balance.
