SHOWJUMPING- Patrick Hickey Runner-Up At Barnadown

Patrick Hickey, Foulksmills, took the runner-up spot in Sunday’s leg of the Connolly’s RED MILLS Spring Tour at Barnadown, riding his 12yo mare, Quandurina, they were only one of eight combinations of the thirty eight on the start-list to to make it through to the jump off.

The Hickey family are synonymous in the equine world, Patrick is a leaving cert student in Kings Hospital, last year he represented Ireland in the Junior Europeans, he has also ridden under Rules, his father Denis is master of Garryrichard Stud, and his uncle, Michael Hickey, has stood many top class stallions at Sunnyhill Stud in Kildare.

Jim Donohoe spoke to Patrick Hickey following the presentation

Frank Curran & Oliver Twister won the class, this makes it back to back wins for the Dungannon rider.

Michaeli Byrne & King Diego, took sixth place in the jump off, another “Young Rider’, she is based at Butterfly Farm, Camolin.

It was a fantastic result for Wexford based riders, and it could have been so much better, Deirdre Doyle riding BLM Authentic Diamond and Sophie Richards partnering Gradje O, both jumped clear in the first round but failed to progress to the jump off as they fell foul of the John Doyle designed track as they both picked up a time fault.

Sophie Richards won best turned out with Gradje O
