WEXFORD HURLER Eanna Martin is Wexford GAA’s first-ever Commercial Manager.
The appointment was approved at a meeting of the County Board last night (Monday).
Eanna has featured for Davy Fitzgerald’s hurlers in their recent National League games against Tipperary and Kilkenny having been utilised in six of Wexford’s 15 competitive fixtures last year.
The New Ross-man, who now plys his club trade with Carrickshock in Kilkenny, is focussing keenly on this Sunday’s mouth-watering Allianz League Division 1 semi-final against Kilkenny at Innovate Wexford Park (2p.m.).
But the 32-year-old is also busily planning to try to harness the financial potential from the considerable uplift in Wexford’s profile under Davy Fitzgerald by maximising the board’s commercial potential.
This is a brand new role in Wexford, and when advertised last December, it notified that the, ‘new post as Commercial Manager will be to help grow the commercial income needed to support our games and teams’.
Eanna has carved out a successful career as a Medical Representative and Assistant Marketing Manager with Irish pharmaceutical company Phoenix Labs, being based in Dublin for the past number of years following an initial posting in Munster.
He had a spell in 2009 as a Hurling Development Coaching Officer with Wexford GAA.
Eanna is now in his 12th campaign with the Wexford hurlers, having made his debut in a National League clash away to Antrim in February 2008.
He has since chalked-up 53 appearances in the senior jersey after coming through as a goalkeeper with both the minors and under-21s.
